Back with another one of those Yacht Rocking Beatz

Hey there, disco kids. It's not all disco tunes on this blog. Every now and then we need to let the smooth sounds seep through. And that's just what I've done with my latest mixtape.

This summer we need to let the fine, sultry stylings of the Doobies, Fleetwood Mac, Kenny Loggins, Hall & Oats, Steely Dan, and all the other Yacht Rockers wash over us like so many waves lapping at the keel of our boat. Take the roof down, turn this up on your 8-track, and cruise on down the esplanade with your best girl. Things are about to get smoooooooth.

Sailing (Yacht Bounce Anthem) -- Christopher Cross

Have you seen the Youtube series called "Yacht Rock"? Okay, if not, then start here with this video. And then waste a whole day and a half watching the rest of the series. You won't be disappointed.

Those who have been following this blog for a while would know how much I love the Yacht Rock, but how much more I like a reworking of a yacht rock classic into a disco tune. And here's one that, if you've caught my latest mixtape, I'm sure you enjoyed. Press play and sail away.

Moullinex -- Kassette

Moullinex is coming to town! He'll be playing New Guernica on Saturday November 10 and will blow the roof off the joint.

Check his latest disco jam. Builds slowly and tidily, drops a keen little funk line into the mix, then works the groove. Then whammo, the disco hits and it's arms in the air and hips all over the place. Cool little breakdowns with some drums that sound like Dolly Parton's "9-5", and then bang, extra layers of disco to keep the floor moving along. And then the hook straight from 1982 and Kasso's "Walkman"

His album will be out on October 26 but in the meantime, grab this free download.

Oh, and who doesn't love a free download?

Black Magic Disco -- September 2012 mix

Black Magic Disco is a UK DJ who has moved to Sydney and mucks around with remixes and productions.

Here's a little mix of his that moves around from Nu Disco to 90s inspired piano house to the latest deep house. You'll find some A.N.D.Y, Vanilla Ace, Cassian, Rocco Raimundo and Jonas Rathsman in the wash, making all your whites turn hypercolour.

Rayko @ The Ministry Of Sound

Rayko is one cool disco dude from Madrid. He had a ripper of a track last year called "Broadway" which took a Bee Gees tune and made it sound good again. Most of his stuff is disco tinted dance floor funtimes that makes you want to grab the oldest flares in your wardrobe and hit the tiles. He takes oldies that were a bit cringy, and makes them into newies that are not so cringy. Bananarama, Hall & Oats, The O'Jays all get a treatment.

This set is a little mix-up for some tiny club called The Ministry Of Sound. I wonder what that place is like, then?

The Leftside Lounge -- Leftside Wobble

Here's a real nice mix for a real nice weekend. It's wobbly all over. Smooth and easy, not too cheesy, kinda breezy. Oh, and a nice little remix in the middle of an old song you'll know!

Crafternoon Delight

This set is actually quite ridiculous, and is based on an episode of "Rage" I watched last Saturday night.  Lots of rubbish in here. I promise a special set and a bit of a surprise later in the week to make up for it.

Paula Abdul -- Opposites Attract (Dimitri from Paris edit)

Dimitri from Paris is at it again, wrecking a perfectly good song for his own enjoyment. Actually, this is a pretty good remix that does very little to the original. You'll play it, won't you? I will.

Too Mass -- Here comes the summer mix

The kids are digging the disco. This kid is Too Mass. He's from Sydney and he's got the jams. He'll kick them out. Summer is on the way and this is what you need to hear. St. Stereo - Mixtape Of Never Awake Street Part 4.

St Stereo is my main man over in Lithuania. He runs a radio show on Zip FM and they say they "are friendly, tough, charismatic, genuine and not afraid to create a different station and always ready to take off your roof." Yes! I came across them when they asked me if they could use one of my mixes on their show late one night. You can listen to that show here.

He consistently plays good tunes, great mixtapes and whatever is hot! Here's his latest mixtape. It's deep and gentle and cruisey and would suit a drive down the freeway late at night. Oh, and if you're ever in Lithuania, tune in or stream it here.

Fleetwood Mac -- Dreams (Psychemagik Remix)

The AOR Disco and Yacht Rockin' Beatz session in Melbourne looks like it might be going ahead. I'll keep you posted on what and when it is happening, but I'm talking with a few venues that might be interested.

One thing is for sure, this is what I'll be playing. Who are Psychemagik? A couple of crazy hippies with blissed out bios and Cosmic Forest dreaming crap all over their website. But also a team who are consistently putting out some of the best remixes and reworkings at the moment. I use a lot of their edits in my mixes. You may have heard the World's End Press mix lately. Or their work for 2ManyDjs, or their take on Wang Chung.

But here's their new jam and it is cool as all fuck. Simple concept, really. Take some Fleetwood Mac and make it contemporary. Everyone's doing it. Every second post these days on AOR Disco is a Fleetwood Mac remix. That blog got real old, real fast. And just like Michelle Obama's vagina, this song was crying out for some attention from a couple of blokes who knew what to do with it.

These guys add their spin to this song and turn it into something gentle and malleable. It's that intro that we all know and love, but there's swooshes and basslines that are unfamiliar yet friendly. Is this the Cosmic Forest? Maybe. Let's take a walk through it.

It'll take you three-and-a-half minutes to get to the song proper. But it's a nice wander and you should take your time. Once you're there, you'll know what I mean.

It's a tricky beat to download, but you'll work it out. Start by going here. Oh, and while you're on the Facebook, give us a "like"

George Benson - Give Me The Night (Jamin Hernandez Edit)

Yep, I know I've been dropping a bit of Bad Party Records on you lately. But really, I should have got around to this one a little earlier. People ask me what sort of stuff I play. Well, this is the Soggy Disco Biscuit sound right here in a tight little 4 and half minute package.

Jamin Hernandez has taken this classic DJ friendly tune from George Benson and given us a clean and tight remix that rolls around your mouth and leaves you feeling satisfied. Bumpy little intro that is fun to work with, a tidy beat, drop the bass and work that groove. Keep the lyrics back a bit, play with the pitch and the results are in! Give us a breakdown that reminds us how good this song was back in the day, and then smash us back into that beat.

What will you mix this into? Needs another classic, I think, to get the floor frothing. How about this?

Groove Motion vs De La Soul - Sat a dub (GM's Re-edit)

If you hate this song, then I don't want to know you. This has to be one of the best hip-hop songs eva! This remix won't let you down. It jams, it rolls, it makes you like Saturday. It's a remix of a remix of a remix. Grease is the word! This is one fine remix, tho! Drops out in the right places, comes back in just fine! It's a Saturday! Find that JB Scream! Locate that Chicago sample! Check that outro and tell me you won't be playing this at your next jam! There's only one whole day for play. This is it.
