World's End Press -- Second Day Uptown

Brilliant! World's End Press have released their new single. Well, it's on their Soundcloud, anyways. You can pick up the single on Monday, though. And you should. It's a cracker! But here's a sneak preview for you now.

I've been waiting for their album to drop for ages, and I guess they have, too. It's coming out later in the year, and if this single is any indication, it should be a blinder.

But, onto the tune! It opens with what's certainly becoming their trademark sound -- kinky keyboards and some smooth bass from the bandy-legged bass player!

Into the lyrics and it's 1994 all over again. A bit of Stereo MCs, a killer chorus -- "The Resurrection is now", and some rolling drums. Sorted!

These guys will be massive. When they play at Coachella or Glastonbury, I might just fly over and catch their set.

John Waite - Missing you (Dunkan edit)

How many times have you listened to the original mix of this song (can you have an original mix?)??

But, how good is this mix? Crap, I hear you say? Nah, have another listen. It's great!. No, really! It is!

Okay, so maybe you're not buying it. But I am. It works.

A little bit ...

just ....

press play again and see what I mean.

2nite (LNTG Re-Edit) -- Late Nite Tuff Guy

I've been following Late Nite Tuff Guy for a while now. You would have heard a number of his remixes in loads of my mixtapes. The guy knows disco! Here's another ripper. Disco-looped and tightly souped for some dancefloor shenanigans.

He's coming to Melbourne on May 19th. Check him out!

Music for plutonic friendships -- Will Cumming

Fuck getting stuck in the friendzone. Who needs that? There's only a small window when you first meet a girl to take a jump at fate and make her yours. Wait too long, and you'll slip. Slip into a world of picking her up off the floor when she's drunk, going shopping with her for shoes, plaiting her hair so she can look good for her date later that night. Eughh!

Here's the latest chapter in DJ Will Cumming's "Music For ... "series. You may recall his last one; "Music For Serious Gardening". This one is a bit deeper, a bit more melancholic, a bit regretful. Shoulda made a pass at her when you still had a chance. Too late, you've entered the friendzone.

Kid Color: Live at Smart Bar - April 13, 2012

This is a tidy set of disco and a great warm-up set. It sounds like it would have been a great party. Kid Colour is A DJ from Chicago and while everyone there is still playing House, this guy is all over the disco tip. I've had a couple of listens to this, and it sounds better each time. Nicely blended, great track selection, and a couple of cool surprises thrown in for good measure.

Iggy Pop - Real Wild Child (Solid Light's Special Access Edit)

Bad Party Records are a small independent record label from Melbourne. Check them out here

This is a spacey take on a rock classic. It works only because the lyric is held back and kept hidden for most of the track. The rest is a twisted disco groove with a cool bassline and a restrained beat.

All it needs, for those of us in Australia, is someone yelling "rage, ra-ra-ra rage" over the top. You know what I mean?

Bill Medley & Jeniffer Warnes - (I've Had) The Time Of My Life (LeSale's Second Base Edit)

Okay, so this is probably one of my favourite songs to play out at the moment. It just messes with so many people's heads. It's a real laugh, and if you have a dancefloor that is not taking themselves too seriously, then give it a go.

It builds really slowly, and by the time the well-known riff kicks in, you'll have a gaggle of secretaries running to the dancefloor. And this is where it gets interesting. As one of them said to me on Friday night; "Stop messing around and play the words!" But of course, why would you want to do that?

AOR Disco Party -- Andrew Clarke & Steve Lee

AOR Disco is getting some pretty close attention over in the UK at the moment. You've been on the blog, no doubt. There's still some killer tracks to be found there if you dig deep enough.

Two guys are leading the way in the UK with this smoooth, yacht rocking, mullet floppin' sound. Andrew Clarke and Steve Lee put on monthly AOR Disco nights at The London Fields Pub in Hackney. Here's a recording of their set from March 31.

I want to go to an AOR Disco party. No, scratch that. I want to run an AOR Disco party. If I put one on in Melbourne, would you come along?

Girls Say Good Times -- Professor LaCroix

Who's up for a three-way?! Here's one with the boys from Groove Armada snuggling up to Greg Wilson for the evening on the couch while Nile Rodgers from Chic watches. Dirrrrty!

It's restrained and held back. It bounces along nicely at 113bpm. It would be a fun warm up track. I'll play this.

Head Nodder Mix 2 -- DJ SAME

DJ Same is on his game!. Remember the Head Nodder Mix from a few weeks back. I'm still playing it. I reckon you are, too. Why wouldn't you? It was grand! But check it, he's made another.

It starts perfectly, with a lovely little re-rub of a classic you should know. There's nothing like a little PRML SCRM to start things off. Ya nodding ya head, yet? I thought so. Wait till the second song! Bombs away! Oh, and Robbie Williams, anyone? Yeah, I thought so! Not quite though, but close! It's ecstasy, when you're next to me!

But check this mix. How smooth, how neat, how tidy! It all fits in. Clicketty-click. Nice and tight.

HOLLYWOOD SEVEN (Disconet Dilemma Extended Edit)

I first heard this song when Jon English sang it in 1979. It was a great song then, but not his. Who wrote it? Who cares ... this is the version you'll know by now. This disco ripper is all over the place at the moment. It's been massive on dance floors for months and just keeps getting better. Late at night, early in the set, people love it! Mike Simonetti, the guy behind this remix, has been playing this for around 6 years.

Every DJ has a tune they grab just at the right time. Something obscure, something deep in the back of the box that only he can remember. Something to shake up the 4/4 house beats and hit refresh on the dancefloor. What's yours? Is it an AC/DC track that rocks the floor just at the right time? Maybe "Sharp Dressed Man" by ZZ-Top, or "When the World Is Running Down" by The Police. They're both mine, but you can have them. Give them a go! You'll see what I mean. You need a song to break the beat. To wash the floor. To start over. Find your own. Or pinch someone else's, like I do!

Shan Frenzie - Last Minute Disco (aka The Love Sensation mixtape)

Ain't nothin' going on but the rent! Pay up for this mix. It's a disco explosion all over the Groove Therapy Radio Show. All over her face, all around her mouth!

Any mix that can squeeze in "Dare Me" by The Pointer Sisters early on in the mix is alright by me! And from there, it just gets cheesier, gayer, and a whole lot better! Check out that Ann Margret song. And you thought Spiller created that disco riff, but oh no, it was Carol Williams. Disco at its finest, people. Oh my, the guy can mix, and you won't be able to keep still.

Shan plays his stuff on the radio at the un-disco time of midday Friday. He's been rocking it for over 10 years! Tune into 2SER in Sydney, 107.3fm to catch his show. Or do what I do, and download his mixes from his podcast site. You won't be disappointed and you might even learn something!

Owner of a Boogaloo Heart -- Minimatic

Move yourself! Prove yourself! Here's one for your next dance party. Boogaloo is back, baby, so break out the cocktails and Peggy, get us some more ice!

Minimatic has been making "retro-futurist music for the modern hipster" long before that whole Nouvelle Vague craze of Bossa Nova reworks of 80s hits from a few years ago. His version of A-Ha's "Take On Me" is brilliant.

Soggy Disco Biscuit -- Volume 13

Lucky 13! This is the 13th podcast which means a full year, 12 months, 365 days of Soggy Disco Biscuit mixtape madness. It's been a lot of fun and a lot of disco. Some of these sets have been better than others. Some have made it onto blogs, onto people's Facebook pages, onto the airwaves.

Some highlights for me have been the amount of attention the mixtapes have received when posted on the AOR Disco website. Both Volume 5 and the BalAORic Mix received over 1500 plays from the traffic from this one site alone. Another highlight was having Volume 5 played on Lithuanian Radio on Sunday night last September. Check out that show here.

I think my favourite mixtape is Volume 7. It's just such a great collection of disco from a lot of eras. Volume 8 was a particular favourite, as well.

All up, the mixtape has been played 2077 times and downloaded 4453 times in twelve months. And that's just through the podomatic site. There's also plenty of hits on the Soundcloud -- 2545 in total.

So what have I got for you this month. Well, as promised, it's a bit of a 'best of' the last 12. I've started with a Radiohead song to try and get my mate Mick at least a little bit interested. I don't think it worked, though. His comment was the same as every month. Crap! Oh well, his loss! From there, a range of some of my favourite hits from the last twelve shows, and a few that I just liked.

Enjoy!
