Rainbow - Stone Cold (Marvin & Guy Dreamin' Mix)

My Soundcloud buddy, Olof put me onto this little number. A classic AOR Disco treatment of an old 70s number. True to form, it builds slowly and gently until the lyric finally kicks. Should go down a treat at my next AOR Disco night.

It's The Falling In Love (LNTG Rework) -- Michael Jackson

Alright! So I might be a little guilty of dropping a little too much Michael Jackson onto this blog. I make no apologies for that. You know he's coming to town, don't you?! It's true! I heard it today being promoted on GoldFM and RRR. Okay, so the Jackson 5, or The Jacksons, or Laytoya, or some of them are coming. You just know they're gonna pull out that whole virtual hologram shit of MJ when they get here. Should be good. Or awkward. Or somewhere in between.

But this jam is a little number you won't here at the Hisense/ Emirates / Etihad Stadium. And you know why? Because it's my main man LNTG from Adelaide messing it all up and making it all good again. No creepy brothers getting in the way. No children to touch up in their special places. No monkeys, or elephant men, or Neverland bollox. Just a groove!

It all drops around the 3 minute mark. So work the floor into the sleuth! Gotta love a B-Side!

Winter Warmer -- DJ Shmeejay

It is one thousand degrees down here in Melbourne today. My garden is dead. The dog looks like he's gonna fight me for the last drops of water spilling out from my leaking shower. I'm walking around in a pair of ridiculous shorts all turned up at the cuffs like I'm some kinda GQ magazine, skinny-tie, pocket handkerchief fagatron. I'm all out of Zooper-Doopers and the beer situation ain't too comfortable.

So fuck you, DJ Shmeejay with your sultry, smooth winter tunes and your open fireplaces all stocked up with Canadian Maple and pinecones. Fuck you for tempting me with your recipe for mulled wine, and late night, smoochy couch sessions with the ladies. Fuck you for bringing us yet another perfectly blended, winter session. Classy, and Christmassy!

C+C Music Factory -- Pride

Before "Things That Make You Go Hmmm" and "Everybody Dance Now", these two guys were DJs who used to blow the roof off the back room at the Ministry of Sound while me and my dance buddies would climb onto the podium and give it some.

Little known fact. The woman in the video for "Things That Make You Go Hmmm" was not the singer. She was a model they hired. The singer was really Martha Wash from the Weather Girls, but unfortunately she was considered too ... ahem ... unsuitable for a 90s video.

People were so clueless about dance music back then. I remember hearing on fm radio in 1990 that Black Box was ... wait for it ... a man! Seems the idiot radio DJ thought that there was actually someone singing "Gonna get up, gonna get up, gonna get up" rather than two Italian blokes using a Loleatta Holloway sample on loop. His 'scoop' was that he had worked out that the 'singer of this band' (his words, not mine) had been outed as a fella. His big joke was that the band should now call themselves Black Tool.

Anyway ... here's C + C Music Factory's best song.

St Germain - Rose Rouge (Leftside Wobble Bump & Hustle Edit)

This has always been a cracker of a track! You remember St Germain. If you stepped into any cafe in the early 2000s, you would have heard this album. Personally, I like "So Flute" more, but this is the second best song on the album.

And good old Leftside Wobble has given it a little tweak here, a little nudge there. Not too much. Nothing heavy-handed. It bumps, it hustles, it grooves. It wants us to get together and put our hands together one time.

Would you play this for a dance floor? I don't know whether mine would have the patience.

Tuesday 6 November 2012

Horses - Daryl braithwaite - (DJ Vertigo Remix 2011)

It's Melbourne Cup today, and it's 9:30am so chances are you're drunk already on some crappy Yellowglen bubbly and stuffing smoked salmon into your sweaty gob.

Well, if you're drunk, that gives me an excuse to play the ultimate drunk secretary song. Give your handbag to your boyfriend, take of those ridiculous heels and make a fool of yourself on the dancefloor to this abomination of a song.

Sunday 4 November 2012

Phunktastike -- Feel The Groove

Check out this track! If you want to pick up the energy of your d-floor a little bit, then throw this one down. Great tribal beats to transition into -- nice and easy for us CD-DJs to actually get the beatmatching right. After a few beers, it gets a lot easier.

Some gentle bass lines that build slowly into something deep and solid. "Groove", it says. And why not? Drop in the break, then bring it all back slowly and surely.

It's a deep lesson in how to keep your floor swinging those hips when it's getting late.

Friday 2 November 2012

Smoooth Fridays

Every Friday is going to be Smoooth Friday in recognition of the Yacht Rock Disco night I'll be running down at The Marquis Of Lorne.

This week, I'm playing Steely Dan. Come up and request a song. Or better yet, hand me a Yacht Rock remix you've made and I'll sling it on.

Soggy Disco Biscuit -- Volume 20

Oh my, can you believe that we've made it to 20 podcasts? That's heaps! As an old drunk I used to know would say; 'Thanks for listening!"

This month, in celebration of a summer full of Yacht Rocking Disco that lies ahead, I've filled this volume with all the Yacht Bounce Disco I could find. You gotta start a set with Barry, don't you? And then, onto some crazy remixes of some 70s class. A couple of nu-disco tracks that keep the mood, and you all know how much I love a mashup. Well, I couldn't resist that last track.

Come on down to the pub any Friday.

That could be sooner than you think. This is what I'll be playing.
